Damian Pitts enters his 17th season as a Millersville assistant in 2017-18. He first served the program as a graduate assistant from 1999-02 and then rejoined it in 2004 as the full-time assistant.
During Pitts’ time with the program, the Marauders have reached three NCAA Division II Tournaments and won a PSAC Championship. Pitts recently took over the the teams academic efforts and guided the team to its best semester GPA in more than a decade.
He tutored Charlie Parker to two PSAC East Player of the Year awards, Eijah Obade to a PSAC East Defensive Player of the Year award and coached 21 All-PSAC East selections. Under Pitts’ watch, Parker and Greg Testa became two of the most outstanding guards in Millersville history. Both were inducted into the school's hall of fame. Including Reggie Bates, Pitts has coached three players that now ranked in the top 10 of Millersville’s career scoring leaders.
The Laurel, Md., native earned a master’s degree in sport management from MU in 2002. Pitts received his undergraduate degree (bachelor’s in history) from Goucher College in 1998.
From 2002 to 2004, Pitts worked as event coordinator for Corrigan Sports Enterprises, a sports marketing company based in Baltimore . There, he assisted with the marketing of events, including the Baltimore Marathon, the Toyota Pro Beach Volleyball Tour, and the Charm City Challenge (high school all-star basketball exhibition).
He stayed active in basketball as assistant boys’ basketball coach at Mount Carmel High School in Essex , Md. In his second year, he helped lead Mount Carmel to a 17-10 overall record—and a noted 15-win improvement from the previous season. Concurrently, Pitts worked for Charlie Weber Basketball, an AAU-affiliated organization.
