Bill Bailes has been a fixture on the Marauder sideline since 1986, serving as the coach for the placekickers and punters.
Bailes, a 1959 graduate of Millersville, started working as with the specialists and serving as an administrative assistant under the late Coach Gene Carpenter. During his first 13 seasons with the program, the Marauders won six PSAC East titles.
Bailes has tutored some of the finest specialists in team history. He coached Luke Hadfield, Brad Heim, Andy Ryzewski and most recently John Banzhof to All-PSAC honors. Bailes also coached two of Millersville’s best punters in Brian Gladden and Doug Joyce.
With Bailes’ guidance, Banzhof set school records for punting average in a season and for a career in 2009.
For his dedication and service, Bailes was honored with the program’s Alumni Award in February 1996.
Following his graduation from Millersville, Bailes worked as a teacher at Lampeter-Strasburg HIgh School until he retired in 1986. He resides in Millersville with his wife, Joanna.
