Amy Seier Vanden Berg '94 is one of eight inductees for the 2026 Millersville Athletics Hall of Fame class. The long history of dominance by Millersville's throwers started with Amy Seier Vanden Berg. The 1994 PSAC Outdoor Championships Field Athlete of the Meet and two-time PSAC champion, Vanden Berg earned five All-PSAC honors in three seasons with top three finishes in the javelin and shot put and established school records that stood for decades.
Seier Vanden Berg won the javelin at the 1991 PSAC Outdoor Championship and triumphed in the shot put in 1994. She finished as the championship runner-up in the shot put and javelin as a sophomore in 1992. Despite losing her junior season to an injury, Seier Vanden Berg returned in 1994 with a championship-winning toss of 42-10 ½ in the shot put, a mark that ranked second all-time and still ranks sixth. She also finished as the runner-up in the javelin and became the first Marauder recognized as the championship’s field athlete of the meet.
Seier Vanden Berg qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the javelin twice and earned All-American honors in both trips, finishing fifth in 1992 and eighth in 1994. In 1992, she was just the fourth Marauder ever and the first Marauder thrower to qualify for nationals. Her 1992 NCAA Championships throw of 149-6 established a school record that stood until 2016.
While Seier Vanden Berg competed before the PSAC Indoor Championships were instituted, she set a school indoor shot put record of 43-10 ½ that stood until national champion Sunflower Greene topped it more than 25 years later.
Seier Vanden Berg’s proficiency in multiple events greatly impacted her team’s success as she helped the Marauders to PSAC titles in 1991 and 1992.
Seier Vanden Berg currently works as a middle school science teacher in Maryland. She coaches middle and high school student-athletes and currently serves as a Maryland State Track and Field Official.
