WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Millersville University women's volleyball team rallied back after their loss to Charleston University to sweep Georgian Court University, 3-0. Set scores in match one were 23-25, 19-25, and 11-25. Set scores in game two were 25-16, 25-21, and 25-22.

Brian Smith, overall, thought it was a great start to the season. "Being challenged and exposing weaknesses is always good early in the season, and it was fun to see this team's potential when we play consistently well." Smith also commented, "With such a new group of primary passers and all new setters, we showed our youth."

Match One vs. Charleston University
Millersville (1-1) managed a .122 hitting percentage, tallied 25 kills, eight aces, and two blocks. Charleston (3-1) outpaced the Marauders with a .333 hitting percentage.
Kylee Schurig led the offense with eight kills, while
Caroline Halsey and
Trinity Baldwin each delivered three service aces.
Kat Dalessio paced the attack with 12 assists, and
Becca Hartranft held the defense with eight digs.

The Marauders stayed within striking distance in the opening set, trailing the Golden Eagles by just one point for much of the frame. After pulling even at 12-12, Millersville rattled off three straight points to take the lead. However, Charleston took advantage of late errors to rally and claim the first set. The Eagles maintained their momentum in set two, jumping out to a 7-1 lead with five unanswered points. Millersville responded with a six-point surge powered by five from Schurig to tie the set. Despite the Marauders' push, Charleston capitalized on back-to-back kills to take set two. Set three opened with a back-and-forth battle, but the Golden Eagles broke away with a six-point run. The Marauders were unable to recover, allowing Charleston to close out the set and secure the match victory.

Match Two vs. Georgian Court
Millersville (2-1) posted a strong .310 hitting percentage, outshining Georgian Court's (0-3) .115 mark. The Marauders posted 36 kills, six aces, and held a two-block advantage over the Lions.
Taylor Welter powered the offense with 14 kills,
Amanda Protzman added two aces, and Dalessio teamed with
Trinity Baldwin to deliver 27 assists.
The Marauders and Lions battled back and forth early in the first set, knotted at 11-11. Millersville then surged ahead on a 10-1 run, fueled by kills from Schurig and
Marin Esch. Capitalizing on errors, the Marauders closed out the set. Millersville's offense started just like they finished, taking a quick 6-2 lead. Georgian Court responded by tying the set at 8-8 and taking a narrow one-point lead. Welter and Hartranft rallied the Marauders to knot the score at 18, then Millersville closed out the set with a 4-1 run. The Lions ignited their offense early in the third set, building a 6-1 lead. However, following some service errors, the Marauders fought back, tying the set at 11 thanks to a six-point run sparked by Schurig, Welter, and Protzman. Millersville maintained momentum with another scoring run, taking a late lead. After five kills from Welter, the Marauders held on at 23-21 to secure the match victory.

The Marauders' next match is Tuesday, Sept. 9, when they host Holy Family for their home season opener at 7 p.m.
