CARLISLE, Pa. - After a three-week hiatus, the Millersville women's cross country team returned to action at Saturday's Dickinson Long/Short Invitational and finished third in a field of 20 teams.
The event featured 6K and 4K races. Millersville tied for fourth in the 6K race, finished fourth in the 4K run, and with the top three runners in each race combining scores, the Marauders placed third in the 20-team field. Three Marauders finished inside the top 25 in both races.
"We ran solid today with the team divided," said Millersville head coach
Andy Young. "We are getting closer to having a strong team performance, but we have work to do to be closer. Third overall with the races combined is solid."
Freshmen led the way for Millersville in the 6K event.
Kira Chebishev took eighth place with a time of 23:41.0. Freshman
Maeve Boyes followed in 24:43.3, placing 23rd overall. Fellow freshmen
Leanne Hodgson crossed the line eight seconds later in 27th.
Millersville's upper classmen ran in the 4K run, and junior
Bri Pollock clocked in at 15:04.8, placing 10th in the 56-runner field. Senior
Olivia Sunderland took 16th in 15:21.5, and junior
Cora Heilman placed 32nd in 15:55.9.
"We tried to give our younger athletes a chance to run their first 6K today while our more experienced runners did the 4K."
The Marauders return to action on Friday, Oct. 3 at the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh.
