Women's soccer loses on the road to #23 Kutztown

KUTZTOWN, Pa. - The Millersville women's soccer program fell on the road Wednesday night to #23 Kutztown, 4-1.

The Bears controlled the tempo from the opening whistle and struck first in the 12th minute with a goal off a corner kick. Just 10 minutes later, Kutztown doubled its lead off another corner kick.

Millersville answered quickly in the 27th minute when junior Sara Edwards delivered a long-range strike, sailing the ball over the keeper's head for her first collegiate goal. Aubrey Strohecker was credited with the assist.

The Marauders trailed 2-1 at halftime and traded chances with the Bears early in the second half. However, Kutztown capitalized once again on a corner kick in the 60th minute and added another goal two minutes later to put the match out of reach.

Millersville was unable to mount a comeback and dropped to 0-2-1 on the season with the loss. The Marauders return to action on Saturday September 13, at 4 p.m. when they host Bloomsburg in PSAC play.

THOUGHTS FROM HEAD COACH MATT PROCOPIO
  • Majority of Kutztown's goals came off corner kicks. What adjustments need to be made going forward? "Three goals off of corners is unacceptable. We have to win the ball out of the air or simply deny the corners to begin with. The adjustment is just that, win the ball. Whether that be zone, man, mix either way, you have to win the ball"
  • How important is it to bounce back quickly with a short turn around? "It's just another week in our conference, so business as usual for us. No matter what happens, you have to reset and go again. Nothing easy in our league"
