MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - The Millersville men's soccer program fell short in a back-and-forth battle against Seton Hill.
The Marauders and Griffins opened the afternoon with a quiet first half, both squads shared nearly equal possession. Seton Hill recorded the first shot on goal at the five-minute mark, but goalkeeperÂ
Kieran Finegan made the stop. Finegan, earning his second collegiate start in the home matchup, went on to tally six total saves throughout the game.Â
The first half closed scoreless, with Seton Hill out shooting Millersville 8-3. Millersville came out aggressive after the break, with early shots from Willard Delevan,
Teague Ferry, and
Roy Parkyn that ultimately came up short. Seton Hill eventually settled in and generated their own chances, but none found the back of the net.
At the 73 minute mark, the Griffins broke through on a touch in goal to give them the lead. Seton Hill tried to extend their lead soon after, but Finegan made another strong save to keep the Marauders within reach. Millersville had multiple opportunities on corner kicks late in the match but were unable to capitalize, leading to the Seton Hill victory.
With the result, the Marauders move to 1-1-1 on the season and return to action next Wednesday September 17, at 3 p.m. when they travel to Georgian Court.Â

THOUGHTS FROM HEAD COACH STEVE WIDDOWSON
- What was the biggest difference between Millersville and Seton Hill in today's match?: "To be honest not a great deal other than they simply executed things far more often than we did. We caused a lot of our own problems and just did not take enough care and pride in the basics of the game. This is a young team, we started eight players that were either freshmen or sophomores, and those younger players need to grasp the importance of the basics as this level, more senior players need to take greater responsibility on their shoulders"
- What's the key to helping the team build more rhythm in the attack?: "We need to be more consistent and efficient in our build up play throughout the field. Then when we get into good attacking areas, we need to demonstrate better decision making and combination play. Overall it was a very poor performance today, but the question now is how we learn and react from it"
