MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Amani Jones' two-run home run lifted Millersville to a 5-3 win in game two of Saturday's doubleheader with Mansfield, salvaging a split after a 9-3 loss in game one.
Â
Millersville's offense was largely lifeless for the first 10-plus innings of the day, but in the bottom of the fourth, with the game tied 1-1, Jones hit his third homer of the season, giving his team its first lead of the day.
Jimmy Kirk capped a 3 for 3 game with an RBI single through a drawn-in infield in the sixth, giving Millersville some much-needed insurance as Mansfield scored twice and loaded the bases in the seventh before
Gavin Lill shut the door for his fourth save of the season.
Â
Conor Cook earned the game two win, improving to 5-1 by allowing one run on three hits over 4 2/3 innings.
Evan Rishell bridged two innings.
Â
Millersville's game two win was a response to the game one performance in which it left the bases loaded four times and stranded 15 base runners. On the mound, the Marauders issued 10 walks, gave up a two-run home run in the first inning to Jacob Houtz, a grand slam to Hunter Smith, and then walked in three runs in the fifth.
Â
Connor Blantz entered the day 4-0 but walked a season-high three batters, and the two homers put a season-high seven runs on his line. Millersville used five pitchers in the disastrous fifth inning. Mansfield snapped Millersville's 11 consecutive wins in the series, earned its first win at Cooper Park since 2017, and handed the Marauders' their first home loss of 2025.
Â
Millersville, now 25-6 overall and 11-3 in the PSAC East hosts Mansfield on Sunday to close out the series.
