Softball splits a pair at Lock Haven

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. — The Millersville Marauders hit the road to take on Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) foe Lock Haven and returned home with a split after taking the first game 6–1 and falling 10–9 in the nightcap. The trio of Nicolina Pezzone, Mollie White and Angelina Saverase combined to throw seven innings without allowing an earned run in the win while the Marauders totaled 21 baserunners in game two.

Pezzone cruised through three innings before working out of trouble in the fourth. White was called on with a runner on second and no one out in the fifth. A hit and an error would let the runner score, but the sophomore escaped the jam with some help from a lineout double play courtesy of Hailey Watlington at second base. Saverase got the ball for the final two frames and closed out the team's 18th win of the season.

Watlington also enjoyed a three-for-four game at the plate. The big blow was dealt early by Angelina Edwards, a two-run shot in the second inning that gave the Marauders the lead for good. Kendra Bumgardner also got on base three times in game one but one-upped herself in the latter half, smacking two doubles, driving in two runs, and reaching base safely in all five trips to the box. Victoria Fuss and Jocelyn Langer also had productive days, tallying three hits each; that group batted 1-2-3 and combined for six runs, eight hits and six runs batted in. Despite that, the 11 runners left on base by the team was part of what prevented the visitors from finishing the sweep.

"It was great to get that game one win," Marauders head coach Jen Probst said postgame. "But we just didn't take advantage of all the opportunities we had to secure the sweep in the second game. We're looking forward to competing at home tomorrow."

The Marauders also worked 8 walks as a team in the second half of the twin-bill, which represents the team's most free passes taken since they had eight against Mansfield on April 14, 2023.

Millersville returns to Seaber Softball Stadium on March 22 to take on Mansfield at 1 and 3 p.m.
