MILLERSVILLE, Pa. — The Millersville Marauders pushed their latest win streak to five games with a pair of workmanlike victories over the visiting Lincoln (Pa.) Lions Wednesday afternoon. The trio of
Jocelyn Langer,
Kendra Bumgardner and
Angelina Edwards led the way in a 10–1 game one victory while
Nicolina Pezzone excelled both in the box and the circle in their 8–5 game two win. It marks the team's 15
th win in its last 16 games after winning a program-best 10 straight games between Feb. 26 and March 9.
"It's exciting to build some momentum with such a young squad," Millersville softball head coach
Jen Probst said postgame. "However, those games still have not been perfect. The best part is that we're able to work things out and learn. We're not making the same mistakes twice and we're able to clean up some things on defense or execute a different plan in the box."
A key part of the team's success has been the starting pitching, which was no different today.
Delaney Troxell took the ball in game one and threw four innings of one-run ball while striking out five batters to get the win. Pezzone delivered a similar performance in game two, tossing four innings and giving up two runs while striking out six. Pezzone also came through with the bat, driving in Millersville's first three game-two runs with a double and a single.
Langer extended her hitting streak to 16 games after tallying base-knocks in both contests. She went two-for-three in game one while scoring three runs and looped a sixth-inning single into center field in game two to keep it going. Edwards and Bumgardner had a similarly productive first game, with the former tallying two hits and two runs scored and the latter going three-for-four with four RBI.
Probst said before the season that the Marauders could employ small ball tactics at a higher rate in addition to being more aggressive in running the bases. Both of those promises have come true to this point; Millersville already has more stolen bases through 18 games (21) than it did in 49 games in 2024 (18). The Marauders' four-run barrage in the bottom of the fourth inning of game one was powered by two well-executed bunts.
"I'll give Coach Joel (Schreiner) a shout out," Probst said of the team's small ball execution.  "One of his primary responsibilities is working with all the players on their bunting skill set. He's done a great job. It's been fun for me on the other end to mix up some of my defensive calls and try some different things out, and (the players are) doing a great job of picking good pitches to bunt and then executing the bunt well."
The Marauders hope to continue their recent dominance against Bowie St. on March 13 at Seaber Softball Stadium. Game one is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
