Marauders close out successful Spring trip with sweep of Bears

RALEIGH, N.C. — The Millersville Marauders continued their winning ways with 7–0 and 5–2 wins over the Shaw Bears Monday afternoon. It marks the team's 13th win in its last 14 games and the end of its Spring Break road trip during which they went 5–1.

"There were some really great moments on this trip," Millersville softball head coach Jen Probst said postgame. "Even at times when we aren't playing our best, this team figures out a way to win."

Angelina Saverase and Delaney Troxell combined to shut out the Bears in game one. Saverase got the start and delivered three innings of three-hit ball and Troxell relieved her to start the fifth with four innings of four-hit ball. The Marauders were kept quiet until Angelina Edwards drove in two runs with a single in the third inning. Jocelyn Langer, fresh off being named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Athlete of the Week, had four hits in the game including two singles in the sixth and seventh innings that brought in three runs. The freshman stayed hot in game two as well, going three-for-three to extend her hitting streak to 14 games.

Millersville scored three runs in the second frame of the nightcap with just two hits in a small ball exhibition. The latest PSAC Pitcher of the Week, Nicolina Pezzone, went the first four innings without allowing a run. She retired the last 10 batters she faced in a row before being removed in favor of Mollie White, who allowed one earned run in her two innings of work. Cameron Witte's two-RBI single in the top of the seventh made the score 5–2 and gave the Marauders some breathing room. Pezzone was called on once more to close it out and did just that to earn her sixth win of the season.

Up next, the Marauders return home to take on Lincoln (Pa.) on Wednesday, March 12 at 1 and 3 p.m.
