YORK, Pa. - It was a productive day one of the PSAC Championships for the Millersville women's swimming team.
Jewels Hepner broke her own school record in the 50-yard freestyle and three of her teammates reached the podium, putting Millersville in fifth place with three days of competition remaining.
Hepner's record of 23.91 came in the morning prelim session, and she swam at 24.03 in the evening finals for 10th place. The majority of Millersville's points were scored in the 1,000-yard freestyle as four Marauders cracked the top 17, three swimming personal-best times.
Jane McClelland earned her first career podium finish at the PSAC Championships by taking fifth with a time of 10:35.61--nine seconds better than her seed time.
Claire Weaver placed seventh, swimming a 10:39.10 in the morning session, and it held up, putting her inside the top eight for the first time in her career. Freshman
Izabella Wreski debuted with a season-best 10:46.78, placing 11th.
Madison Taylor jumped 13 spots from her finish as a freshman in 2024, placing 17th with a PR time of 11:02.27.
Senior
Jordan Plempel provided 23 points to the team, placing seventh in the "A" final of the 200-yard individual medley in a season-best time of 2:08.09.
Millersville's 4x800-yard freestyle relay team of Weaver, McClelland, Wreski and Anna Sassman placed ninth. Also competing on day one were
Natalee Shepard and
Mackenzie Yosko in the 50 free. Both swimmers posted PR times in the morning prelims.
Millersville's 153 points trail fourth-place IUP by 17 but sit 46.5 in front of sixth-place East Stroudsburg. Action continues Tuesday morning with prelims for the 100-yard butterfly, 400-yard individual medley and 200-yard freestyle. Plempel enters the championships seeded second in the 400 IM.
