SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Clutch free throw shooting down the stretch was the difference as Millersville held on to a 75-66 win over Lincoln in Friday's season opener at Shippensburg's Heiges Field House.
Bryn Zentner led the Marauders with 16 points and a career-high 17 rebounds, freshman Daniella Ranielli scored 14 points in her collegiate debut, and
Maddie Nimmo scored 14 points, hitting 10 of 11 free throws.
Nimmo and Zentner were particularly clutch in the fourth quarter. The Marauders led 69-60 with 1:56 to play, but Lincoln sank back-to-back 3-pointers to cut Millersville's lead to three in the final minute. Zentner and Nimmo, however, combined to sink six consecutive free throws, and Millersville got the two stops it needed to preserve the win.
Nimmo scored 10 and Zentner scored nine in the fourth quarter and the duo scored Millersville's final 14 points. Millersville made 12 of 14 free throws in the fourth quarter.
Millersville started quickly and led 46-28 at the half. The third quarter changed the game, however, as Millersville shot just 2 of 15 and Lincoln outscored the Marauders, 18-7. Lincoln's Alaila Walker scored a game-high 23 points.
Millersville is now 9-1 all-time against Lincoln.
