ABOUT THE GAME

  • The Millersville Marauders (11–8, 6–6) return home to take on the West Chester Golden Rams (8–11, 5–7) in the final PSAC East game before the midway point of the divisional schedule. The Marauders are looking to snap an eight-game losing streak against the Golden Rams dating back exactly five years.
  • Before the action on the court begins, recent 1,000-point scorers Kali March and Makiah Shaw will be honored for their achievement. March reached the mark on Jan. 11 against Shepherd while Shaw did so at home on Jan. 22 against East Stroudsburg.

SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS

  • After a strong start to the PSAC East slate, Millersville has faltered against stronger competition over the last week and a half. The Marauders have lost three straight for the first time this season and have fallen out of the top spot in the East. In their last game against first-place Lock Haven, a poor first quarter put them in a 26–2 hole early on and led to an 81–51 loss.
  • The team's weakness over the past three games has been its defense. The Marauders held their opponents below 33% from the field in each of their first seven conference games of the season. Since then, they have allowed the opposition to shoot better than 40% from the field in four of their seven divisional contests; Millersville is 0–4 in those games. The outside shot has been a problem in those losses, with their opponents shooting better than 40% from beyond the arc three of those four games.
  • Sophia Elstone had one of her best shooting games of the season against Lock Haven, finishing second on the team in points with nine and going one-of-two from three-point territory. Elstone continuing to shoot the ball well would be massive for a Millersville team looking for a secondary perimeter threat next to Kali March. Brenna Ortwein has also shot the ball well of late, making two threes in three straight games prior to the Lock Haven game.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN RAMS

  • The Golden Rams have had a down season by their standards thus far in 2024–25, going just 8–11 after putting up a 2–7 mark last season. The departure of leading scorer Emily McAteer and All-PSAC selection Leah Johnson have certainly played a role in that. Despite that, the Golden Rams have posted a record above .500 since a 3–7 start to the season including wins over Jefferson, Cal U., Kutztown and East Stroudsburg.
  • The senior duo of Michelle Kozicki and Anna McTamney have picked up the slack left (and then some) by the departures of Johnson and McAteer; Kozicki, a forward, is second in the conference in points per game at 21.1 while McTamney is eighth at 15.8 PPG. Both of them do most of their scoring work inside of the arc but will step out for the occasional three, averaging about two attempts per game apiece. The six-foot Kozicki has also been one of the conference's best rebounders, averaging 10.1 per contest; that ranks fifth in the PSAC. West Chester is near the bottom of the conference in three-pointers made and three-point percentage, so this game should be won in the paint.
  • As a team, the Golden Rams are near the top of the conference in steals per game. That's because they feature a quintet of players averaging more than a steal per contest: Kozicki (1.8), McTamney (1.9), Bella Mazur (1.5), Erin Daley (1.8) and Alainna Hopta (1.2).

SERIES HISTORY

  • This is what many consider each program's most prominent rivalry, although East Stroudsburg could have a claim to that in recent years as far as basketball is concerned. All-time, West Chester has a slight edge with a 52–47 mark against Millersville but the Marauders hold the upper hand when playing at home (25–18). Millersville is looking to snap an eight-game losing streak dating back to Jan. 29, 2020. Since Kiera Wooden took the helm at West Chester 11 seasons ago, she is 18-2 against the Marauders.

PSAC EAST ROUNDUP

  •  Lock Haven took full control of the PSAC East with its Jan. 25 win over Millersville, moving its conference record to 8-4. That's one game ahead of the red-hot Bloomsburg Huskies, who have won seven of their last eight games. With the Marauders' recent skid, they've fallen into a  third-place tie in the conference with Kutztown at 6-6. Shepherd sits all the way at the bottom with a conference record of 1-11 after losing its last seven games.
