MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - Aided by two post deflections, Bloomsburg earned a 3-1 victory over over Millersville on Homecoming Saturday.
For the first time all season, Millersville could not find the back of the net first. It was Bloomsburg's Anika Krasnai who did. With pace, Krasnai dribbled the ball up the sideline and crossed the ball to unmarked Brooke Foster, who headed the ball in to take the 1-0 lead in the 28th minute. Fewer than three minutes later, Isabel Coy evened the score for Millersville as she weaved through three defenders with skill moves and found an open shot in the box. She placed the ball in the lower left-hand corner to tie the game up 1-1.
With two minutes left in the half, Millersville goalkeeper Sabrina Zimmerman's mis-hit ball was intercepted by Alena Totten. In a footrace to recover the ball, Totten's speed prevailed as she was able to find the back of the net, giving the Huskies the 2-1 lead before halftime.
Fewer than two minutes after the halftime break. Jess Wanzoe added Bloomsburg goal. Millersville tried to muster a comeback, and earned a free kick off a Huskies' yellow card. Melanie Love serviced the ball into the box where Olivia Stone's shot ricocheted off the crossbar, saving Bloomsburg from letting up another goal.
Aalivia Wainwright stole the ball from the Bloomsburg defender and found herself in a one-on-one situation with the keeper. She expertly shot the ball around the keeper, but the ball nicked off the post and deflected back into play.
Millersville continues play at home as Shippensburg travels to Pucillo Field on Wednesday, Sept. 25 for a 7 p.m. kick-off.
