MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - Millersville women's soccer blanked Shippensburg for their first shutout of the season, as the Marauders prevailed, 3-0.
Millersville dominated from the start, quickly getting to work as the first goal was scored in the fourth minute. Isabel Coy was played on a through ball and she expertly used her skill moves to maneuver around her defender, drawing the attention off Aubrey Strohecker. Strohecker popped into space and one-timed her shot in the upper left-hand side of the net, sending Millersville up 1-0.
The Marauders applied high pressure from the jump, forcing the Raiders to park the bus and focus on defending their own end. Melanie Love pinpointed Coy with a perfectly timed pass across the field. In a one-on-one scenario with the keeper, Coy found a wide-open lane and slotted the ball in the bottom left corner doubling the Marauder lead in the eighth minute.
There was plenty of action in between, as Millersville out-shot Shippensburg 14-7, placing seven shots on frame compared to the Raiders two.
In the 85th minute, Aalivia Wainwright put this game out of reach. Off a Marauder free kick, the ball was bobbled in the Raiders' box. Wainwright's turnaround shot found the far post side netting, sealing the 3-0 victory.
Millersville improves to a 2-2-1 conference record while Shippensburg is still searching for their first win as they are 0-3-1 in conference contention.
The Marauders will travel to East Stroudsburg to face the No. 21 ranked Warriors on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 1 p.m.

THOUGHTS FROM HEAD COACH MATT PROCOPIO:
- Key takeaways from tonight: "Great to start off the week strong by scoring 3 goals and getting a shutout. We played more towards our identity today as well."
- Defensive efforts limiting Ship to two shots on net: "Shutouts are what we're looking for and it was needed so holding them to a low number of shots is very positive."
- Team's depth and variety in goal scorers: "Can never have enough goal scorers. I am happy to see them finding the back of the net. We will look to continue that and to get others on the score sheet too."
- Thoughts going into this weekend's game with ranked opponent ESU: "We need to finish the week out and win the week. It never stops in terms of opposition. So we will need to recover and get ready to go again. "
