No. 2 West Chester pulls away from Millersville

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - Despite Millersville's high-intensity first-half performance, they could not maintain the energy in the second half as West Chester claimed the 21-8 win.

Millersville's Mary Moraca assisted Ashlyn Simonetti in scoring the opening goal to go up 1-0 in the 13th minute of play. West Chester went on to score four goals but Jodylynn Cadden had the answer as she found the back of the net to narrow the score 4-2. The Golden Rams found the back of the net twice more while Simonetti scored a man-up goal for the Marauders to end the first period at 6-3.

Still keeping the game within arm's reach, Millersville played even with West Chester in the second half. Genovese, playing a vital role in Millersville's first-half success, contributed two additional goals to the team's total while also collecting three ground balls, three draw controls, and causing one turnover.

Out of the half, the Marauders notched two quick goals to the Golden Ram's one to cut the three-point deficit to two with the score remaining in West Chester's favor, 10-8. West Chester then dominated as they blanked Millersville for the remainder of the game as they went on an 11-0 run to capture their sixth PSAC East win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Simonetti and Genovese tallied two goals.
  • Morgan Scott faced a season-high 41 shots.
  • Genovese and Kaitlyn Krebs both scooped up three ground balls.

THOUGHTS FROM HEAD COACH KAITLYN HAFDELL

  • Thoughts on the game today: "I think we played to our full potential today, especially in the first half to show the talent and hustle we truly possess. We battled it out in the 1st half and gave WCU a fight. It was just unfortunate we couldn't keep up the fight the entirety of the game but we never lost the hustle. That is the one thing about these players that never falters, they give it their all to the last second every game."
  • Expectations on the upcoming game against East Stroudsburg: "I want the team that showed up at the start of the game to be there again on Saturday. We now just need to sustain that battle throughout the game. If we show up and play like we did today, the rest of the season is looking very promising."

UP NEXT

  • Millersville keeps play at Biemesderfer as they take on No. 9 East Stroudsburg for the second go-around in PSAC East play, on Saturday, April 13 at 1 p.m.
