ABOUT THE GAME

  • The Millersville Marauders (12-14, 10-10) host the West Chester Golden Rams looking to secure their position as the fourth seed in the PSAC Eastern Division's playoff race. Both teams enter on winning streaks, as the Marauders have won their last four and the Golden Rams have won their last 13.

SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS

  • Millersville enters on a four-game winning streak that has vaulted them into position to host a first-round PSAC East playoff game at Pucillo Gymnasium. The Marauders clinched a playoff spot with their comeback win over the Golden Bears last Wednesday.
  • The team statistic that has proved to be most predictive of the result for the Marauders this season is points off of turnovers. When scoring more points off of giveaways than the opposition, they have a flawless 10-0 record; they have just a 2-14 mark when failing to do so.
  • In order to upset the Golden Rams, the Marauders will have to do a few things they failed to do in West Chester earlier this season: hold them to under 60 points and record fewer turnovers than the Rams. They are 9-3 when keeping the opposition to 59 points or fewer (West Chester scored 73 last time) and 9-2 when recording fewer turnovers than their opponents (West Chester won that battle 16-6).
  • One advantage that Millersville has opposed to last time is that both Jabria Ingram and Morgan Mahoney will be available. Both starters missed the January 29 contest and were sorely missed. Ingram has been pivotal to Millersville's success this season, as the team is 8-2 when she starts and 4-12 when she doesn't. The graduate student has been one of the best distributors in the conference this season, evidenced by her 4.3 assists per game and 1.8 assist to turnover ratio, which repectively rank third and second in the PSAC. Mahoney was moved to the starting lineup recently and has been one of the best rim protectors in the league; she's averaging 1.1 blocks per game, fifth in the PSAC.
  • Another asset for the Marauders is the red-hot Makiah Shaw.  She's coming off of her best all-around week as a Marauder and looks to build on consecutive performances that garnered her PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week honors. She averaged 17 points, seven rebounds, two blocks and two steals in the wins. She paced the team in scoring, rebounding and blocks in both contests as well. With that scoring surge, Shaw raised her team-leading scoring average to 13.0, good for nineteenth in the conference.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN RAMS

  • After starting the season slow, the Golden Rams have been on an absolute tear of late. After losing 76-79 in overtime at Lock Haven on January 13, their record stood at 8-5 overall and 3-4 in conference play. Since then, West Chester has not lost, winning its last 13 in a row entering this contest. The Golden Rams were also 1-5 on the road at that point and have now taken their last five away contests. Despite that recent road success, that has been their opposition's best chance at claiming a victory; they have a 6-5 mark on the road and a flawless 15-0 mark at home.
  • West Chester's offense consists mainly of a quartet of upperclasswomen who all average more than 10 points a game and have been incredibly durable this season; of a possible 104 games played amongst the group, they have played and started 103. The Golden Ram's leading scorer is Emily McAteer, who's third in the conference at 17.9 points per game. She paced her team with 23 points on 50% from the field when the Marauders visited earlier this season. She's also third in the league in field goal percentage among qualifying players at 52.7%.
  • Leah Johnson is their second-leading scorer at 15.3 points per game, but contributes much more than just her tenth-ranked scoring average. She's the only player in the conference averaging more than five or six assists per game at 6.1 per contest and also leads the PSAC in assist to turnover ratio at 2.4. The senior has also been a menace on the defensive end, as she's third in the conference in steals per game at 2.6. Johnson had one her most impressive performances this season at Millersville's expense, as she registered 14 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists for a triple double while turning the ball over just once.
  • The final two double digit bucket-getters on the Golden Rams are Michelle Kozicki and Anna McTamney. Kozicki's averaging 10.4 points per game and a team-leading 7.1 rebounds per game while McTamney sits at 10.0 points per contest on the dot.

SERIES HISTORY

  • All-time, the record between these two programs sits nearly even at 47-51 in favor of West Chester. Over the past decade, however, it has been quite lopsided in favor of the Golden Rams. Since the 2013-14 campaign, the Marauders are just 2-19 against their rivals from West Chester. Their 73-45 downing on January 29 marked the seventh consecutive loss for the Marauders, which is the second time in that 10 year span that their losing streak has reached seven.
