ABOUT THE GAME

  • The Millersville Marauders (11-14, 9-10) host the East Stroudsburg Warriors (8-16, 6-13) on Senior Day with a chance to entrench their position as the fourth seed in the PSAC Eastern Division's playoff race. Holding the fourth seed would put them in position to host a playoff game in Pucillo Gymnasium when the season ends.

SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS

  • Millersville enters on a three-game winning streak that has vaulted them within striking distance of the Kutztown Golden Bears for third place in the PSAC East with three games remaining. They are two and a half games behind the Golden Bears, who the Marauders just defeated 61-59 in the final seconds.
  • The team statistic that has proved to be most predictive of the result for the Marauders this season is points off of turnovers. When scoring more points off of giveaways than the opposition, they have a flawless 9-0 record; they have just a 2-14 mark when failing to do so.
  • The Marauders continued their improved offensive showing against Kutztown despite the final tally of 61 points. Kutztown entered with the fourth-ranked scoring defense in the conference and was in the midst of a nine-game stretch in which they allowed an average of 48.8 points per game. In the Golden Bear's last 10 contests, opponents have reached the 60-point plateau just three times; two of those three were courtesy of the Marauders.
  • Three players will be honored as part of the pregame Senior Day festivities: graduate student Jabria Ingram, redshirt senior La'Shyra Williams and redshirt junior Madison Grubb. All three players are enjoying the best campaign of their careers in 2023-24. Williams, in her third season with the Marauders, ranks second on the team in points per game and has been a mainstay in the starting five when able to play. Grubb is also in her third season with the Marauders and has started seven games while averaging career-highs in points, rebounds and assists. She's second on the team in three-point makes as well.
  • After starting one game in her first season at Millersville, Ingram has become the offense's main cog in 2023-24. She's started nine games and the ‘Ville is 7-2 in those games. Ingram is fourth in the PSAC in assists per game at 4.3 and third on the team in points per game at 8.1. She also claimed the most recent PSAC East Athlete of the Week award after a two game stretch in which she averaged 20 points, six rebounds and six assists.

SCOUTING THE WARRIORS

  • East Stroudsburg enters after snapping a six game losing streak with a 56-51 victory over Bloomsburg on February 21. Before that game, ESU's last victory had been over the Marauders on January 27. Sitting at sixth place in the conference, that victory over the Huskies moved the Warriors to the sixth and final playoff spot.
  • This matchup shapes up to be a battle in the paint, as East Stroudsburg is last in the PSAC in three-pointers made per game (2.4) while Millersville is second to last (2.5).  The Warriors haven't fared much better inside the arc either, as they're fifteenth in the conference in team field goal percentage (35.3%). Their company at the bottom of those rankings is less than stellar; the bottom two teams in both divisions surround them on both sides in those rankings.
  • Those numbers are a contributing factor as to why the Warriors are dead last in the conference in points per game at 51.0. In comparison, the Marauders sit fourteenth with a mark of 59.4.
  • Despite that number, junior guard Corrin Gill has managed to break into the top 10 in assists per game at 3.3, good for sixth in the PSAC. She leads East Stroudsburg in both that and steals per game (1.4) among qualifying players. Gill also led the Warriors in scoring against Bloomsburg with a season high 20 points.
  • Junior Izzy Vogel ranks second on the team in steals but leads them in scoring at 9.1 points per contest. She's reached double-figures 10 times in the 2023-24 campaign and did so yet again against the Huskies, pouring in 15 points.
  • Junior center Emily Chmiel is the Warriors' other top scorer at 9.0 points per game. She scored the second most points of her career (24) against the Marauders in the first matchup this season and ranks first on the team in rebounds with 6.5 per contest despite playing just 16.0 minutes per game, eighth on the team. That rebounding mark ranks eighteenth in the league.

SERIES HISTORY

  • This is technically the second-longest rivalry in Millersville women's basketball history. These two programs first met during the 1922-23 season but didn't do so again until 1951-52. It was in the 1978-79 campaign that they began meeting on a consistent basis. Millersville holds a clear edge in the all-time series with a 58-34 mark with most of the damage coming since 1998. The Marauders have a sparkling 42-13 record against the Warriors since then, including winning streaks of 16 and 10 games. The 'Ville has fared much better at home than on the road traditionally, with a 34-10 record when playing in Millersville.
