ABOUT THE GAME

  • The Millersville Marauders (9-14, 7-10) host the Mansfield Mountaineers (11-12, 8-10) in a clash of the fourth and fifth seeds in the PSAC's Eastern Division. The Mounties have been a half game ahead of the Marauders for over a week now and hold the head to head advantage after winning 84-60 in Mansfield on Jan. 20.

SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS

  • Millersville is coming off their most dominant win of the season, a 77-48 drubbing of Shepherd on Valentine's Day. That marks its most points scored in a single game since defeating Slippery Rock 83-71 on Dec. 2, 2023. It is the most points the team has tallied on the road this season and the second most overall.
  • Jabria Ingram paced the team with 21 while Sophie Elstone was not far behind with 20; both numbers were career-highs. Ingram topped her previous best of 17 set on Jan. 3, 2024 against Seton Hill. Elstone's high-water mark prior to the game was 16, which she had achieved twice before. It was also the first time this season the Marauders had two players clear the 20-point threshold in a single game.
  • Ingram had her best game of the season in her return to the starting five. The graduate student was dominant in all other phases of the game in addition to scoring; she recorded seven assists without a giveaway (a career best without a turnover), grabbed five rebounds and registered five steals. The steal and assist marks both led the Marauders while the steals represented another career-high.
  • Ingram's seven assists without a turnover improved her marks in two categories in which she is top-five in the conference. She raised her assists per game average to 4.2, good for fourth in the PSAC. She also increased her assist to turnover ratio to 1.7, which ranks second in the league.
  • Elstone's performance was her best as a Marauder as well. The Knox College transfer's 20 points came on 67% from the field, and she snagged eight boards to lead the team. Elstone also registered three assists while turning the ball over just once.
  • The ‘Ville continued its stifling defense from the past few weeks against Shepherd. Since giving up 73 points to West Chester on Jan. 31, the Marauders have allotted their opponents just 52 points per game, over 11 fewer than their season average (63.3).

SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS

  • Mansfield enters after taking care of business with victories in back-to-back contests against the cellar-dwelling Shepherd Rams and Shippensburg Raiders. Those two contests were at home, where the Mounties are a stellar 7-2 both overall and in conference. The road has been a much different story throughout the 2023-24 campaign, however, as they are 3-9 overall and 1-9 in PSAC play. The Marauders' loss to this team earlier this season came in Mansfield.
  • The Mounties are middle of the pack in just about every team statistic except for three-point shooting and rebounding. They have attempted the sixth most threes in the conference (472). This was key when these two teams previously met, as the Mounties shot 23 threes and made an impressive 11 of them for a 47.8% mark. In comparison, the Marauders made just four on 17 attempts.
  • They are fifth in the PSAC in total rebounds per game at 40.3 but 15th in opponent total rebounds per game at 38.5. This was the other big reason the Marauders fell in January, as they were out-rebounded 43-34 overall and 16-11 on the offensive end.
  • Senior forward Jasmine Hilton is a big part of those top of the conference rebounding numbers, as she pulls down 8.7 misses per game, good for third in the PSAC. She's recorded eight double doubles this season including one in each of the last two games and grabbed 15 rebounds in a game twice.
  • Hilton is also a threat on the offensive end, as she's tops on the Mounties in scoring at 15.5 points per contest. She's been a threat from all three levels for most of the season but has hit a cold streak from outside over the past month, shooting 13.3% from beyond the arc since Jan. 17. That scoring number places her tenth in the league in points per game. She's reached double-figures in scoring in 12 straight games as well.

SERIES HISTORY

  • Millersville dominates this rivalry like no other. The program enters with an all-time mark of 72-7 against the Mountaineers including a perfect 40-0 record at home. Between Feb 2, 1991 and Feb 9, 2005, the Marauders won 30 straight meetings. From their first matchup in the 1981-82 to that aforementioned date in 2005, they went 44-1. The Marauders have gone on three separate winning streaks of 10 or more games as well. Since 2010, the Mounties have fared a little better, winning four of 28 games in that span including one earlier this season on Jan. 20.
