MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - West Chester took control of the game early, scoring in the first five minutes while rattling off three more goals to result in a dominant 4-1 win over Millersville.
The Marauders made a costly mistake early to present the Golden Rams with an opportunity to take advantage. A Marauder misplayed a ball back to Millersville's keeper and Emma Moss could not secure a quality touch. West Chester's Alyson Cutter closed the gap and deflected Moss's clearance into the net for a 1-0 lead.
The Golden Rams had another opportunity on net but Moss saved the first shot with a diving deflection. The Golden Ram who followed her save was Faith Matter to tapped in goal number two for West Chester to lead 2-0.
The duo of Cutter and Matter led the Golden Rams' offense. Cutter slipped Matter past the Marauder defense to put the team up 3-0 before halftime.
The Marauders' comeback attempt started in the second half of a corner kick. Kiley Marandola serviced the ball near the penalty area and found the head of Hannah Blackman. Blackman scored off the crossbar to put Millersville on the board and cut the lead to 3-1.
Millersville outshot West Chester 9-8 in the second half as they tried to push for more goals. In turn, Matter, in a solo effort, dribbled the ball down the field to score goal number four and seal the game 4-1.
The loss bumped Millersville from playoff contention. They finish their season at Lock Haven on Saturday, November 9 at 7:30 p.m.
