MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - The Marauders demonstrated extreme determination and resilience as they rallied together for a 2-1, come-from-behind victory over the West Chester Golden Rams Wednesday.
The win put Millersville into the PSAC Tournament. Now 5-2-1 in the PSAC East, Millersville vaulted West Chester for second place in the standings.
Millersville needed two second half goals from freshman Teague Ferry to pull off the comeback.
The Marauders faced an early setback with a penalty kick that gave the Rams a 1-0 lead. A majority of the first half was controlled by the Rams as they out-shot the Marauder 8-3 and earned 10 free kicks as a result of foul calls.
There was a shift a momentum in the Marauders' favor in the second half and the spark plug to that energy was the freshman Ferry. In the 52nd minute of play, Fallou Cisse sent a cross into the box finding the head of Richy Valerde. Valderde's shot was blocked by West Chester goalkeeper Jaden Howard. Ferry charged hard into the box finishing the deflection into the back of the net, earning his first collegiate goal.
Just 10 minutes after scoring his first goal, Ferry followed with his second, putting the Marauders ahead 2-0. Louis Wright settled the ball in the midfield and placed a long ball to the far side of the six-yard box. Ferry made a run into the box and placed a one-touch line drive just under the crossbar.
For the last 30 minutes of play, the Marauders played intense defense to hold on to their lead.
The Marauders have a few days to reset and recover before traveling to West Virginia to take on the Shepherd Rams. Millersville can still chase down Bloomsburg for PSAC East top spot with two wins and a two-goal margin of victory over Bloomsburg in the finale.
