MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - A slow start condemned the Marauders early as they fell 2-0 to the No. 15 Shepherd Rams. The Rams sit atop the PSAC East standings with an 8-1-2 conference record, while the Marauders hold a 5-4-3 record, placing them in fourth.
Millersville played a high line early to catch Shepherd offside twice and retracted two goals to keep the game scoreless.
Shepherd, with early momentum, ended up tallying the first goal in the 26-minute play. Reagan Ackermann, with pace, dribbled the ball up the sideline and crossed it in the box. The ball took an awkward deflection off Adrianna Morales to redirect it past Sabrina Zimmerman to go up, 1-0.
The Rams, with possession, made their way into Marauder territory through one- and two-touch passing. Sarah Peternel crossed the ball to Annabelle Wunderlich, who shot the ball from the top of the 18-yard box and slotted it in the far post netting to extend the lead, 2-0.
The Marauders applied more pressure before halftime as Madelyn Zielke blocked a Ram clearance and shot a low-driven ball for Hannah Wilt, the Rams goalkeeper to save.
A late second-half press instilled hope for the Marauders as they applied high pressure and outshot Shepherd 4-2 in the last 15 minutes of play. Unable to find the back of the net, Millersville dropped to the Rams once more.
The Marauders resume play on Pucillo field as they host East Stroudsburg on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 1 p.m.
