Women’s soccer ties with Bloomsburg

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - A faulty clearance by the Marauders' backline caused Millersville to settle for a 1-1 draw against Bloomsburg.

In the PSAC East standings, Millersville is ranked fourth with a 5-3-3 record, and right on their back is Bloomsburg in fifth with a 5-4-2 record.

Dictating play in the first half, the Marauders continued with their scoring first trend by finding the back of the net in the 13th minute. Emma Moss booted a goal kick up the field where Aubrey Strohecker sprung open Aalivia Wainwright. Uncontested, Wainwright played herself forward and slotted the ball past the Huskies' keeper to go up, 1-0.

Bloomsburg found their rhythm in the second half as they had four shots, placing three on the frame. The equalizer came in the 58th minute. A miscommunication between the Marauder backline and Moss prompted the Huskies to pressure the ball. A failed clearance allowed Brooke Foster to shoot the ball over Moss' head to level the score, 1-1.

The Marauders end the away-game stretch as they kick off against No. 15 Shepherd on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 6 p.m.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • Wainwright scored her third goal of the season.
  • The Marauders outshot the Huskies 9-5 as both teams placed three shots on net.
  • Both keepers made two saves a piece.
  • Both teams generated three corner-kick opportunities.
THOUGHTS FROM HEAD COACH MATT PROCOPIO
  • Thoughts on today's match: "We started strong but faded in and out throughout the game. This is the 4th game we've dropped points from a winning position. Mentally we need to continue to build throughout the game. I believe we deserved more than a draw from the game but that's how it goes sometimes."
  • Where was the momentum switch from the first to the second half: "We've discussed starting strong and finishing stronger but not put that into action enough. It will be something we need to really focus on as we have 5 games left to go."
  • How to prepare for the rematch against Shepherd: "Shepherd is very good. We will need to bring our best. 6pm game at home though. Would love a strong crowd to create a great atmosphere to help us continue to push through those tough segments."
