MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - The Millersville men's soccer team handed the Mercy Mavericks their first loss of the season 1-0 thanks to a goal by senior Cody Scully.
With just five minutes remaining in the match, Scully blast a thundering line drive into the back of the net to secure the Marauders a victory.
The goal came after 10 minutes of strong possession for Millersville, Tylen Thomas received the ball and sent a long cross into the box. Sophomore Roy Parkyn corralled the ball and settled for Scully to finish the play.
This match was evenly played with each team fighting for possession and offensive opportunities. Millersville out-possessed Mercy 54% to 46% while also shooting them, 11-5.
Millersville's defense remained composed during the Mavericks' attack, allowing just one shot on goal. Goalkeeper Jake Van Vorhees collected his third clean sheet of the season with just one save.
With the victory the Marauders improve to 6-5-0 and Mercy fell to 5-1-4.
The Marauders have a short break before they travel to Shippensburg to take on the Raiders on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 5 p.m.
