SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Millersville women's soccer earned its first road win of the season Wednesday, beating Shippensburg, 2-1.
In the 36th minute of play, the Marauders took the lead on a goal from Bailey Hunt. The Marauders earned a corner kick, got the ball knocked away, and then serviced it back in the box. Hunt gained possession, and after a preparatory touch, struck the ball toward the goal, bouncing it off the inner-post and into the net for 1-0 lead.
During the first half, the Marauders outplayed the Raiders with one goal, four shots, and no saves. In contrast, the Raiders produced no shots in the first 45 minutes.
"Always good to score first," said Millersville head coach Matt Procopio. "We've needed to come out stronger in the first half. I would like more than four shots but zero shots against is always good."
The Marauders kept their foot on the gas as they scored their second goal in the 61st minute. Hunt played the ball forward to Palina Jordan who skillfully moved past her defender to secure the Marauders' second goal. Shippensburg scored in the 70th minute when Nicole Tormann put them on the board. Despite the one-goal margin, Millersville held off the Raiders and controlled play for the remaining 20 minutes.
Millersvillle continues to play on the road, traveling to Lock Haven on Wednesday, Oct. 4.
