MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - The Millersville women's soccer team dropped a hard fought match against East Stroudsburg Saturday at Pucillo Field, 2-1.
The Marauders' scoring play occurred early in the game. In the 10th minute of play, Nia Chinapoo fouled Maddie Zielke approximately 30 yards from the goal resulting in a free kick for the Marauders, which was taken by Kylie Sullivan. Sullivan sent the ball into the box, where it was contested by both teams. However, Palina Jordan emerged victorious, putting the Marauders on the board with the early 1-0 lead. Almost five minutes later, with an assist from Millie Smith, Natalie Schooley leveled the score for the Warriors, making it 1-1.
In the 52nd minute, the Warriors took a 2-1 lead. Emily Wineburg took a free kick that found Chinapoo's head, and she put the ball in the back of the net. The Warriors created 10 shots and earned three corners throughout the match. The Marauders played exceptional defense against the Warriors, who typically average 18.3 shots per game and concede less than one goal per game. The Marauders limited them to 10 shots and scored a goal.
The Marauders travel on the road for their next game against Shippensburg on Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 4 p.m.
