Marauders defeat Lock Haven in shutout fashion

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Millersville offense remained hot as the Marauders dominated in a 3–0 win over the Lock Haven University Bald Eagles on Saturday afternoon. Scoring the goals for the Marauders were Roy Parkyn and Richy Valverde getting their first tallies of the year, and Michael Dempsey scoring his second of the season.

In the 30th minute, the Marauders took advantage of some lackadaisical passing from the Bald Eagles, taking control of possession in the offensive zone and making their way toward the goal as. Parkyn and Dempsey played give-and-go to free up Parkyn inside the box and find the back of the net.

A little over halfway through the second half, the Marauders had control of possession in the offensive zone as Louis Wright had the ball outside the top of the box. Wright fired a shot in on target that the Lock Haven goalkeeper couldn't corral, and Valverde beat everyone to the rebound for the goal. In the final moments of the game, Dempsey received a pass running down the left side and cut in toward the box and sent a crossing attempt towards the middle of the field. The ball deflected off a Bald Eagle defender and into the back of the net, putting the Marauders up 3–0.

POSTGAME REACTIONS FROM HEAD COACH STEVE WIDDOWSON

Overall thoughts on the game: "I thought we played a really good game barring the first 10–15 minutes, we were very lucky not to go one down. But from that point, once the game settled in a little bit, I thought we were fantastic. I thought we defended well, we moved the ball well, had contributions from everybody out on the field, played a really good style, and I think it was a deserved result."

On the energy level throughout the game: "We have very good depth. We've always put a lot of focus on the fitness aspect of things in this program as well. So having depth and guys that are fit and capable of playing good minutes, that just helps because I can make changes and we're bringing in fresh legs, but we've got guys that have just as much talent as well. So I think that's just a testament to the depth quality of our squad and the commitment that everybody gives, regardless of what role they play.

On the start to the season so far: "I'm happy, pleased, [but there's] still things we can improve on and there's still a long way to go. We're happy with where we're at, but we understand things can change extremely quickly. So it's one game at a time, but we're in a good place for the moment."
