SHEPHERD, W. Va. – The Millersville softball team dropped both games of Friday's doubleheader at Shepherd. The Rams took game one by a score of 9-1 in five innings and walked away with an 8-4 win in game two.
Millersville falls to 18-16 (7-7 PSAC East) while Shepherd improves to 23-11 (6-8 PSAC East).
In game one, the Shepherd offense was able to hit 'Ville ace,
Alex Schaefer, something that most opponents haven't been able to do this season. The Rams scored eight runs off eight hits in Schaefer's two and one-third innings of work – they would score an additional run off
Angelina Saverase. The Marauders lone run came during the third inning as
Lacey O'Donnell stole home. O'Donnell led the Marauders with a pair of hits in the game as well.
In game two, the teams traded leads until the Rams eventually pulled away. 'Ville took the game's initial lead with a two-run first inning that featured an
Aleese Angelo RBI-single and a
Gabby D'Ottavio sacrifice fly to center field. D'Ottavio would replicate that sacrifice fly again in the third to extend the Marauder lead to three.
The Rams got their offense going in the fourth inning, scoring three runs to even the score. Angelo would hit a solo shot in the fourth to temporarily take back the lead, but five Shepherd runs in the fifth would seal the deal.
Despite the loss,
Morgan Crutcher threw four innings and allowed just one earned run with three strikeouts. Angelo and
Sam Fried each recorded multi-hit games as well.
