MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Millersville softball team split Saturday's senior day doubleheader with Bloomsburg. The Huskies took game one by a score of 9-0 in six innings. 'Ville answered in game two with a 5-3 victory.
Millersville moves to 19-17 overall, 8-8 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East play. Bloomsburg moved to 12-20, 7-7 in the PSAC East. The Marauders sit at No. 5 in the conference standings, while the Huskies sit right below at No. 6. Â
The Marauders' victory featured one of
Morgan Crutcher's best starts of the season. The junior threw six and two-thirds innings and allowed just one earned run while striking a batter out.
Millersville led for the entire game and grabbed that lead in the first inning when
Taylor Campagna hit a two-RBI double to right field that scored
Aleese Angelo and
Kendra Bumgardner. 'Ville tacked on two more runs in the fourth and fifth innings after Angelo and
Victoria Fuss recorded RBI's, extending the lead to 5-0.
Bloomsburg would attempt a comeback in the seventh, scoring three runs and loading the bases with two outs. However,
Angelina Saverase would enter the game in relief and get 'Ville out of the bases-loaded jam, resulting in the win.
POSTGAME THOUGHTS FROM HEAD COACH JEN PROBST
"Morgan was so effective today," said Probst. "She mixed speeds well and fielded some really tough balls. Our senior class makes a huge impact everyday on the ways they contribute both on and off the field. I can't say enough good things about their character and desire to serve their teammates. They each have made a positive impact on me and I'm grateful to have the opportunity to coach each of them."
