SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Aleese Angelo broke the Millersville single-season record for both doubles and extra-base hits on Saturday morning at Shippensburg. The junior's game-one, first inning double moved her ahead of Faith Willenbrock for extra-base hits with 31 and ahead of Heather Lutz for doubles with 20. Angelo currently leads the conference in doubles and ranks second in NCAA Division II.
"Aleese has been really consistent this year," said head coach
Jen Probst. "She continues to be a tough out. Her power has really helped rack up the extra-base hits."
The Marauders dropped both games of the road doubleheader to Shippensburg. The Raiders took game 5-1 and game two, 8-0. Millersville's lone run of the day came during game one as
Gabby D'Ottavio hit a solo homerun over the centerfield wall. D'Ottavio joined Angelo and
Gabi Turner in the 100 career-hits club later in game one when she singled through the left side to reach the milestone.
D'Ottavio's three hits led Millersville today. She was followed by Turner who recorded two, one in each game.
'Ville falls to 23-25 overall and 10-16 in PSAC East play, while Shippensburg improves to 22-15 and 16-10 in conference action. The Marauders currently sit at No. 7 in the PSAC East with doubleheaders against Shepherd, Kutztown and Bloomsburg remaining.
