Marauders set to host Golden Bears on Senior Day

ABOUT THE GAME

  • After almost a week since their last match-up, the Millersville women’s lacrosse team will host Kutztown on Saturday, Apr. 22 and will recognize their five seniors prior to Saturday’s game. The 2023 class includes Taiyana Goldsborough, Kristi Kada, Charlotte Lasak, and Julia Barstow, Isabella Gandolph. The conference match-up is crucial for the Marauders’ chance at a postseason run, as Millersville sits behind Kutztown currently who holds third place in the PSAC East rankings. The conference tournament is comprised of the top three teams from both the East and West divisions for a six-team tournament. 

SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS

  • Millersville bounced back for a 2-0 week during last week’s matchups after they fell in three straight games, two of which were against nationally ranked West Chester and East Stroudsburg. The Marauders claimed victories over Bloomsburg and Shippensburg with identical scores of 16-12. With the two wins, Millersville’s overall record improved to 8-6 and are now 5-4 in the PSAC East.
  • The Marauders’ offense average 13.57 goals per game which ranks them fourth in the conference. Taking an average of 30.50 shots per game, Millersville lands 23.79 on goal for a .445 shot percentage. In goal, Morgan Scott averages 12.36 saves per game which ranks her first in the PSAC. Scott has faced 456 shots this season and holds a .482 save percentage. 
  • Earlier this week, Ashlyn Simonetti earned PSAC East Athlete of the Week for her performance in the Marauder’s victories against the Huskies and Raiders. Simonetti totaled 12 points from five goals and seven assists for the Marauders, she also ranks fifth in the PSAC in assists with her 1.71 average.  

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN BEARS

  • Ranking third in the PSAC East, Kutztown is 10-3 overall and 7-2 in conference action, with their two losses coming from top-ranked West Chester and East Stroudsburg. The Golden Bears are on a three-game win streak and will look to continue that against the Marauders on Saturday. 
  • Kutztown’s offense averages 14.38 goals per game and shoot an average of 26.23 shots on goal. Totaling 41 goals and leading Kutztown’s offense is Lailah ElBouazzaaoui. Another offensive leader for the Golden Bears is Emma Meakim who ranks first in the PSAC in assists per game (3.93 avg.) 
  • The starting goalkeeper, Jenna Blesson, has played a big part in the Golden Bears success this season as she averages 8.53 goals against which ranks third in the conference. The goalie holds a .505 save percentage and has faced 262 shots so far this season.
