Angelo ties single-season record; Marauders fall to Lock Haven

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Aleese Angelo tied Faith Willenbrock's ('21) single-season extra-base hits record with a two-run homerun in game one of Friday's PSAC East doubleheader against Lock Haven. The junior currently has 30 extra-base hits in addition to her 20 doubles, which also is currently tied for a single-season record.

The Marauders dropped both games of the doubleheader, falling 6-4 in game one and 7-4 in game two. 'Ville now sits outside of the PSAC East's top-five teams at No. 7 with a 10-14 divisional record -- Shippensburg (14-10) and Lock Haven (13-13) are currently occupying the No. 4 and No. 5 spots.

GAME ONE
  • Angelo's homerun, plus a Bald Eagle error gave 'Ville a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning.
  • Lock Haven would answer with a four-run third inning that included a bases-clearing triple and an RBI single.
  • An Allyson Black RBI evened the score at four in fifth-inning action; however, Lock Haven scored a pair of runs in the seventh to take game one, 6-4.
  • Alex Schaefer received the game-one loss after pitching all seven innings and striking out four batters. She moved to 15-11 this season.
  • Angelo led 'Ville from the plate, going 3-for-4 with a run and a pair of RBI's.
GAME TWO
  • In game two, neither team crossed home plate until the fifth inning as Morgan Crutcher and Jada Schellhammer each tossed four scoreless innings.
  • In the fifth, Lock Haven scored a pair of runs that were followed by three 'Ville runs in the bottom half of the inning, which came off an RBI-single from Kendra Bumgardner and a two-RBI-double from Sam Fried.
  • Similar to game one, the Bald Eagles pulled away late, scoring five runs in the sixth inning compared to the Marauders' one, which helped clinch their 7-4 win.
  • Marli Schreiner went two-for-two from the plate with an RBI, double and a run.
  • Gabby D'Ottavio and Fried also recorded doubles in the loss.
  • Crutcher fell to 5-10 on the season.
