MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Millersville softball team split a doubleheader at Lock Haven on Sunday. The Marauders took game one behind
Alex Schaefer in the circle, 4-1, before falling in game two, 6-5.
Millersville moves to 14-14 this season, with a 3-5 record in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern division play. Lock Haven moves to 14-12 overall and 4-6 in conference play.
GAME ONE
- Schaefer earned her 11th victory of the season (11-6) and recorded her seventh complete game. The junior allowed just one run and one walk while striking out six batters.
- Millersville's first run of the day came in first inning play on a Gabi Turner bases-loaded walk that scored Aleese Angelo. Lock Haven would even the score at 1-1 in the bottom half of the first with a sacrifice fly that scored a runner at third.
- The Marauders built their game-winning lead in the second and third innings off long balls. The first came from Victoria Fuss in the second which also drove in Allyson Black.
- In the third, Gabby D'Ottavio then hit her second homer of the year to put 'Ville up, which led to the 4-1 win. Â
GAME TWO
- The Marauders jumped out to an early one-run lead in game two as well, this time off an Angelo homerun to center field. Lock Haven would quickly respond in the first with a two-RBI single to take the lead.
- The Bald Eagles would score one run in the third before the Marauders evened score at 3-3 in the fourth, courtesy of a Marli Schreiner two-run homerun.
- Millersville took 5-3, Â seventh-inning lead after RBI's from Angelo and Kendra Bumgardner, however, Lock Haven rallied in the bottom half of the seventh to take the 6-5 win.
- Bumgardner received the loss and moves to 0-2 this season in the circle.
