CLERMONT, Fla. – The Millersville softball team went 1-1 on Thursday in Clermont, Fla. at The Spring Games. The Marauders dropped their first game of the day against Southwest Minnesota State (2-1) before defeating Lake Erie (1-0) in the second game.
VS. SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA STATE
- Morgan Crutcher threw five innings of scoreless softball for the Marauders, giving up only two hits, no walks and striking out one batter. She was relieved in the sixth inning by Alex Schaefer who gave up just one earned run in a pair of innings.
- Errors proved to be costly once again for the Marauders, committing four in the loss. The costliest came during the top of the sixth when the Mustangs scored both of their runs. The game-tying run scored on a fielder's choice to the short stop, before the game-winning run crossed home on the throwing error.
- The Marauders recorded eight hits but weren't able to drive in more than one run.
- Aleese Angelo led 'Ville, going 3-for-4 from the plate. Taylor Campagna followed with a 2-for-2 performance. Â
VS. LAKE ERIE
- Schaefer led the Marauders in their 1-0 win over Lake Erie, throwing all seven innings and striking out five Storm batters. The junior gave up just three hits in the victory. On the Lake Erie side, pitcher Grace Hammer also threw seven innings without allowing an earned run.
- Millersville scored the game's only run in the third inning when Angelo reached first on Lake Erie error, which allowed Sam Fried to cross home and grab a 1-0 lead.
- D'Ottavio went 2-for-3 from the plate to lead 'Ville. Gabi Turner recorded the only other Marauder hit in the defensive duel.
POST GAME REACTION FROM HEAD COACH JEN PROBST
- "Aleese had a great game one at the plate," said head coach Jen Probst. "The pitchers continue to keep us in games. We're getting a lot more quality at-bats, but leaving way too many runners on. Their fight and ability to battle when it's close is the kind of grit that's going to keep us winning."
