CLERMONT, Fla. – The Millersville softball team wrapped up its trip to Florida at The Spring Games with a pair of losses on Friday morning. The Marauders fell to Kentucky Wesleyan 7-4, before dropping their final game of the week to Notre Dame (Ohio) by a score of 4-2. 'Ville finished an even 5-5 in Clermont, Fla. and head back to Millersville with an 11-7 record.
VS. KENTUCKY WESLEYAN
- Kentucky Wesleyan jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning that was fueled by a two-run homerun, along with a pair of singles and a Marauder error.
- The Black and Gold would cut that lead to two during the second inning as Bryn Spoerl recorded an RBI single to send Gabi Turner home.
- In the third, the Panthers extended their lead to 5-1 on a two RBI single.
- Millersville scored a combined three runs in the fourth and fifth innings, which cut the Panther lead to one. However, the comeback effort would not be enough as KWU scored an additional two runs in the bottom of the fifth, leading to the Marauders' three-run loss.
- Morgan Crutcher took the loss after throwing three innings, giving up five hits and allowing four runs. She moves to 3-4 on the year.
VS. NOTRE DAME (Ohio)
- Notre Dame began play with a two-run first inning that came off a triple, single and SAC fly. Millersville would answer in the first with a triple of their own from Kendra Bumgardner followed by an Aleese Angelo RBI, which cut the ND lead to one.
- The teams each scored an additional run in the fifth inning before Notre Dame capped off its 4-2 win with a seventh inning score.
- Alex Schaefer threw all seven innings in the loss, giving up seven hits and three earned runs. The junior added seven strikeouts as her record fell to 8-3.
UP NEXT
Millersville will be back at home on March 15 to take on Georgian Court with action starting at 2:30 p.m. on the 'Ville Sports Network. The Marauders will begin PSAC East play on Tuesday, March 21 at East Stroudsburg.
