EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Millersville softball team dropped both legs of Tuesday's PSAC East opening doubleheader to East Stroudsburg. The Marauders fell in game one by a score of 3-0, before losing game two in five innings, 9-1.
Alex Schaefer highlighted the day for 'Ville, throwing six innings in the first game, giving up seven hits, striking out 12 ESU batters and walking just three. The junior gave up two earned runs, while one run came in on a Marauder fielding error. Her 12 strikeouts mark a new career-high. Despite the strong performance she fell to 8-5.
East Stroudsburg scored one run in three separate innings during game one to take the three-run victory. The runs came in the second, third and fifth innings -- 'Ville's best scoring chance came during the first inning as
Lacey O'Donnell and
Aleese Angelo both got on base but were left stranded.
The Warriors did most of their damage early in game two as eight of their nine runs came in innings one and two. ESU put together nine hits in those two innings to jump out to an 8-0 lead. The Marauders scored their lone run of the doubleheader in the fourth inning on a
Kendra Bumgardner RBI -- ESU responded in the fourth with one run, which resulted in the 9-1 final.
Morgan Crutcher took the loss and falls to 3-5 on the season.
The Marauders will be back in action on Friday, March 24 against Mansfield at Seaber Softball Stadium. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m. on the 'Ville Sports Network.
