KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Millersville trailed by as many as 14 during Monday night's divisional game at Kutztown, but the Marauders showed up when it counted and defeated the Golden Bears 71-62 in double-overtime. It marks the Marauders' fourth-consecutive game win and helps them keep pace in the crowded Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East standings.
Taylor Lagan proved to be the difference maker yet again for this young Marauder team. Coming off a week where she was named PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week, the Division I transfer poured in a career-high 32 points and 17 rebounds, 19 of those points coming in overtime and double-overtime, to will Millersville past Kutztown.
The combination of three
Bria Beverly points and a timely stop in the final minute of regulation sent the game to overtime. The Marauders would then dig themselves an eight-point hole with just under two minutes remaining in the first overtime before Langan took over. The guard, along with relentless Marauder defense, outscored Kutztown 10-2 in the final two minutes of play. The Marauder run was capped off by an impressive
Jabria Ingram steal and Langan game-tying three pointer to send the game to double-overtime at 59-59.Â
Â
The Marauders' momentum would start to factor in their favor during the second overtime period. They forced one of KU's 21 turnovers, which is the Golden Bears second-highest turnover total this season, at the 3:46 mark of double-overtime and followed it up with a Ingram layup at the 3:29 mark to take their first lead of the game at 61-59. 'Ville would dominate the final three minutes of play, ending the game on a 10-3 run to complete the comeback victory.
Head coach
Sharay Hall and the Marauders currently sit in a tie for third in the PSAC East with five games remaining in conference play, and it doesn't get easier down the stretch. Four of 'Ville's final five games come against teams currently sitting in the postseason. The Marauders are trending in the right direction as of late though, winning four-consecutive games and six of their last nine.
POST GAME THOUGHTS FROM HEAD COACH SHARAY HALLÂ Â Â
- Message during the comeback:Â " It was important that we played as a team and got stops first and rebounded. When we play great defense, it leads to efficient offense. I was also important to motivate and keep them composed/relaxed in order to pull out win."
- On Langan's performance:Â " This being the second half of conference play she has readjusted well to the flow of the game and want is needed to be successful individually and collectively. She has brought a versatile dominance and competitiveness and it has been showing in her performance."
- On the team's resilience:Â "Today I used the metaphorical slogan 'become soldiers not hero's and be ready to go to war with your sisters'. Every day they step on the 'battle field' together and fighting through adversity together. Today showed that everyone from the players on the court to the players on the bench all wanted this win and they made it happen together. I am proud of their resilience and fight tonight."
