MILLERVILLE, Pa. – The Marauders women's basketball team ended the regular season on a high-note after picking up a 72-65 win over the Mansfield Mountaineers on Saturday afternoon. Millersville finished the regular season going 17-11 overall and 12-10 in the PSAC. Saturday's match-up concludes the Mountaineers season as they finished 3-23 overall and 2-20 in conference action.
Taylor Langan recorded her second straight double-double, tallying 23 points and 10 rebounds for Millersville. This is Langan's sixth game this season with over 20 points. La'Shyra Williams and Marin Miller totaled double digits in Saturday's game. Williams recorded 16 points going 4-for-8 on the floor and swishing all eight free throws. Miller tallied 12 points for Millersville and drained two shots from behind the arc.
Millersville officially clinched the fourth seed in the PSAC Tournament after defeating Mansfield. Preparations for postseason action is now in full swing as the Marauders will face-off with East Stroudsburg in the first round of playoffs on Monday, Feb. 27 at 5:30 p.m.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Marauders' hectic defense limited the Mountaineers to scoring single digits in the opening quarter. Leading 14-8 at the end of the first, Millersville shot 5-for-14 on the floor, 1-for-3 behind the arc, and 75% from the free throw line. The Marauders' defense limited Mansfield to going 4-for-21 on the floor and missing all six three-pointer attempts.
- Mansfield closed in on the Marauders in the second to keep the game within close distance. With two minutes remaining in the second, Mansfield created a 6-0 run to trail Millersville by one point. Langan drained two three-pointers with 1:00 remaining to maintain Millersville's lead heading into the half.
- Taking their first lead of the match-up, Mansfield opened the third quarter with a 6-0 run to lead Millersville 34-31. Back-and-forth changed the lead four times in the third. The Mountaineers drained a three-pointer with 0:51 seconds remaining to put Mansfield within one-point. Millersville closed the third quarter from a Miller three-pointer and a Langan jumper to stretch the Marauders lead to six points heading into the fourth.
- Mansfield fought to make a comeback, but the Marauders' efforts secured the 72-65 victory. The Mountaineers were within three-points with 2:54 left in regulation but Millersville outscored Mansfield 7-3 at the end of the fourth and defeated the Mountaineers by seven points.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Marauders shot the best from the floor in the third quarter, going 7-for-15 from the floor, 75% behind the arc, and draining all six free throws.
- Brenna Ortwein and Bria Beverly tallied five points each. Morgan Mahoney, Jabria Ingram, and Jaida Parker recorded three points of their own and Makiah Shaw accounted for two points on Saturday afternoon.
- The Marauders grabbed 41 rebounds, 30 of which were on the defensive end.
- Millersville held the edge in second chance points (11-8), and bench points (25-21).
