ABOUT THE GAME

  • Millersville knows it will host a PSAC Tournament game on Monday night, but there is still plenty to play for in Saturday’s regular season finale at home against Mansfield. The Marauders, ranked No. 9 in the first NCAA Atlantic Region rankings, are trying to bolster their at-large resume and regain some momentum headed into the PSAC Tournament. The Marauders current sit a half-game behind East Stroudsburg for third place, but could still claim a share of the PSAC East title with a win and losses by Shippensburg and West Chester. Shippensburg can earn the No. 1 seed with a win against Lock Haven Saturday. A Shippensburg loss and Millersville win would make the Marauders the No. 3 seed. Lock Haven and Shepherd are already locked in as the fifth and sixth seeds respectively.
  • Prior to Saturday’s game, the Marauders will recognize its three seniors: Ryan Davis, Mekhi Hendricks and Justin Nwosu. The trio have played a key role in four-straight postseason appearances and the 2022 PSAC East title. Davis has played in 89 career games, Hendricks has played in 110, and Nwosu owns 115 career games with 113 starts. He’s averaged 11.0 pints and 5.5 rebounds per game during his career. Nwosu ranks 26th in career scoring, recently passing 2022 grad Caden Najdawi.

SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS

  • Jahme Ested played a career-high 41 minutes Wednesday against West Chester and scored in double figures for the fourth time in the last five games. He also matched his season high with seven assists. He’s tallied seven assists in two of the last three games. Over the last five games, he’s averaged 11.2 points, 4.0 assists, 1.8 steals and 4.4 rebounds per game.
  • Matt Dade turned in a career performance Wednesday night, scoring a career-high 33 points and grabbing a season-high nine rebounds. Dade is the first Marauder to score 30 points in a game this season. He’s been outstanding in his first season with program, leading the team in scoring 12 times. Dade also averages a team-best 14.1 points per game on 52.4% shooting against PSAC opponents.
  • When the Marauders start quickly and defend, they are nearly unbeatable. ‘Ville is 16-2 when holding the lead at halftime, 14-0 when shooting a higher percentage than its opponent, and 17-4 when holding opponents under 50% shooting. Millersville ranks fourth in the PSAC in scoring defense. The 65.7 points per game is the fewest allowed since 2013 (65.5).

SCOUTING MANSFIELD

  • Mansfield has dropped seven of its last eight games, but it recently scored a 60-59 win over Bloomsburg and took PSAC East-leading Shippensburg to overtime before losing by one. Road games have been a challenge for the Mountaineers, going 1-11 with the lone win coming at Bloomsburg. Eight of those 11 losses have been by double figures.
  • Opponents are shooting 46.4% from the field and averaging more than 78 points per game.
  • Idris Ali is Mansfield's top scorer (13.7) while shooting 45.4% from the field.

SERIES HISTORY

  • Millersville has won 15 of the last 16 games against Mansfield dating back to 2014. Mansfield has not won in Pucillo Gymnasium since 2012--dropping nine in a row in the Marauders’ home building. Millersville is 31-7 at home against Mansfield since 1984. The Marauders have had at least one 20-point scorer in each of the last five games against Mansfield. Nwosu has scored 22 twice in his seven career games vs. the Mountaineers, averaging 12.4 points in those games. Hendricks also has two 20-point games in seven career games.
  • The Last Meeting Millersville 79, Mansfield 56 (1/28/2023) Mansfield simply had no answer for Millersville sophomore Drew Stover. With dunks off dishes from his teammates, pick-and-pop 3-pointers, and hook shots operating on the low block, Stover scored a career-high 24 points, leading Millersville to a 79-56 win at Mansfield. Stover made 11-of-13 shots from the field, making his first 10 field goal attempts before his first miss. Millersville also received a career-high 13 points from J.D. Gross and a career-high 13 points from freshman Day Waters.
