EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. - Faced with a tough task in upsetting the first-place East Stroudsburg Warriors, the Marauders showed some fight on the road but ended up falling in straight sets.Â
Â
Defending their home court, the Warriors jumped out to a 7-3 advantage before extending their lead to 12-6 and causing a Brian Smith timeout. The hosts were not deterred by the ploy, as they immediately went on a 12-2 run to put the set out of reach. Lost in the shuffle was a personal 3-0 run courtesy of Alex Nava, who recorded three straight kills at one point.Â
Â
Set two went in a similar fashion, as an early 8-0 Warrior run put Millersville in a tough spot. The Marauders did battle back, however, with two kills from Sam White and two more from Nava to cut it to 12-8. Even so, the effort wasn't enough as the Warriors took the set 25-19. Taylor Welter made her presence known with three kills in the game.Â
Â
The Marauders fell 25-9 in the final set to close out the match. They'll look to bounce back tomorrow when they travel to face Kutztown at 1 pm.Â
COACH BRIAN SMITH'S THOUGHTS
- On what there is to take away from a match like this:Â "There is always something to be learned, even when you get hammered. I stressed to the team that they needed to remember this match and how it felt to be embarrassed. I also told them to let it go. One good thing about our conference schedule is that we get a chance at redemption in 15 hours at Kutztown."
GAME NOTES
- This is the second matchup between these two teams this season, as the Marauders fell 3-1 at Pucillo Gymnasium on Sept. 29. The all-time series between these two teams now stands at 25-12 in favor of Millersville, but East Stroudsburg has won five of the last six meetings.Â
- The Marauder's conference record falls to 3-8 following the loss while the Warriors maintain their flawless mark at 11-0. They remain first in the PSAC East while Millersville remains sixth.Â
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Despite being on the losing end, Alex Nava still paced both teams in kills with 14. It's the fourth consecutive match in which she's recorded 13 or more putaways.Â
