ABOUT THE GAME

  • Millersville’s PSAC East portion of the schedule opens Wednesday at Bloomsburg, and the Marauders have won three-straight games at Nelson Field House after dropping 10-straight in the building from 2009-2018. Last season, Millersville went 14-2 against the PSAC East en route to a division championship. The Marauders are in the thick of a stretch that includes playing six of nine games PSAC games on the road. Millersville is 1-3 in true road games and 1-4 away from Pucillo Gymnasium this season.

SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS

  • The Marauders are looking to bounce back after back-to-back losses and its fewest points scored in a home game in 21 years. Finding consistent offense is the key for the Marauders as they’ve scored fewer than 60 points in the last two games and have scored fewer than 60 points three times in 11 games. Millersville has topped 70 points just four times and rank 14th in the 18-team PSAC in scoring offense. Millersville ranks 10th in the league in field goal percentage (.436) and 15th in 3-point field goal percentage at 30.5, which is the program’s percentage through 11 games since 2015-16. The Marauders are 4-0 when shooting better than 32% from three. They’ve hit that mark just once on the road (vs. Clarion). Millersville is also 6-1 when shooting better than 40% from the field. The recipe for success is simple as the Marauders are 6-0 when shooting a higher percentage than its opponent and 0-4 when allowing opponents to shoot 50% from the field. • Millersville has had six different players lead the team in scoring through 11 games with Matt Dade leading the way three times. Drew Stover leads the team with six double-digit scoring outings, followed by Ryan Davis and Jahme Ested with five each.
  • Millersville has leaned on its defense and ranks third in the PSAC in scoring (64.5). The Marauders have limited points despite ranking ninth in the league in field goal percentage defense and last in 3-point defense. Teams are scoring fewer points because of fewer opportunities. Millersville allows just 54.5 shot attempts per game which is second-fewest in the league behind only Mercyhurst at 53.5. Teams have attempted 178 threes vs. Millersville, again the second-fewest in the league. Only four teams have allowed fewer than 200 attempts from three. Millersville has also forced the fourth-most turnovers, creating 17.1 per game.

SCOUTING BLOOMSBURG

  • Bloomsburg is looking for its first win of the Chris Bess Era, and they’ve been close with four games decided by fewer than 10 points. Since shooting better than 45% from the field in each of the first three games, Bloomsburg hasn’t hit that mark in the last six games. Three players average double figures with Louie Wild (12.8) and Jake Nelson (12.6) leading the way. Both are capable shooters as Wild has hit nearly 86% of his free throws and scored 22 vs. Edinboro. Nelson has three double-doubles and can hit the three, sinking 7-of-15 attempts. Bloomsburg ranks 16th in the PSAC in scoring offense and 17th in scoring defense.

SERIES HISTORY

  •  Millersville has won six in a row against Bloomsburg, but two of those three road wins have been by single digits--including an 80-74 Millersville win the last time the two teams met. Millersville has scored more than 80 points in each of the last five meetings. Aside from a two-year break during World War II and the COVID-19 cancellation of 2020-21, Millersville and Bloomsburg have played at least once every season since 1927-28. Wednesday's game is the 195th all-time meeting.
  • The Last Meeting Millersville 80, Bloomsburg 74 (Jan. 29, 2022) Millersville scored its seventh consecutive victory and fourth-straight road win Saturday, but the three-win Bloomsburg Huskies sure did make it interesting. With the hot-shooting James Sullivan saddled with foul trouble, Khari Williams scored 16 of his game-high 28 points in the second half and helped the Marauders rally from a late four-point deficit and win. Huskies caught fire on the offensive end in the second half, sinking 17-of-36 shots, and not only erased the double-digit deficit but led by as many as four points on two occasions, including as late as 7:31 to play.
