LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Millersville hit three home runs, including a game-tying blast from
Chase Simmons in the eighth, and
Thomas Caufield, who finished with three hits, hit a two-run double that broke open a tied game and helped Millersville to an 11-8 win in Friday's PSAC East series opener at Lock Haven.
Millersville (17-5, 4-0 PSAC East), now winners of eight in a row, rallied from behind twice in the game and scored nine of its 11 runs between the sixth and eighth innings. The Marauders trailed 3-2 entering the top of the sixth before posting a four-run inning, and then trailed 8-7 before scoring four in the eighth. Caufield went 3-for-5 with a homer, double and three RBIs.
Keegan Soltis also homered and doubled and drove in two, and Chas Simmons went 2-for-5, hitting a solo home run that tied the game at 8-8 in the eighth.
Sam Morris, who also hit a sacrifice fly that gave Millersville its momentary lead in the sixth, entered in relief in the eighth with two runners on base, and finished the game for his second save.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
• Down a run in the sixth inning, Soltis doubled home
Luke Trainer to tie the game. Morris followed with his sacrifice fly, and later, with two outs,
Jimmy Losh doubled down the right field line to give Millersville a 6-3 lead. Soltis added a solo home run in the seventh, but the lead did not hold. With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, a passed ball gave Lock Haven its second run of the inning, and after a single, an error kept the inning alive. Gabe Stirr made the Marauders pay for the miscue with a three-run homer that pushed Lock Haven in front, 8-7.
• Simmons started Millersville's rally with a homer to lead off the eighth.
Cole Houser singled, and Losh was intentionally walked with one out. Then, with two outs, Caufield doubled in both Houser and Losh to break the tie. Trainer immediately followed with a double of his own for a three-run Millersville lead.
• Morris went from right field to the mound with runners on first and second and one out in the eighth. He got a ground out and then he slammed the door with a strike out. In the ninth, after a leadoff single, he sat down three-straight Lock Haven hitters for the save.
