MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Millersville women's basketball saw it three-game winning streak end tonight in Pucillo Gymnasium, as the Raiders from Shippensburg took down the Marauders, 75-57.
Lauren Lister was able to provide a team-high 21 points, while
Makiah Shaw and
Mia Leonard each added 10 to the mix.
Millersville came out strong in the first, taking a six-point lead at the 2:17 mark in the quarter off a
Ty Taylor layup; However, that would be the final Marauder points scored until midway through the second quarter. The 'Ville drought allowed Shippensburg to take a six-point advantage going into second-half play.
The theme of tonight's second half was Shippensburg not allowing the Marauders to form a comeback. 'Ville would find ways to pull within five twice, one time off a
Lauren Lister three pointer, but the Raiders continued to end Marauder runs with big shots. Destiny Jefferson, who scored a game-high 22 points, came in during the fourth after sitting due to foul trouble and provided a couple dagger-like shots for the Raiders to put Millersville away.
The Marauders will now move on to Wednesday's matchup with the current No. 1 team in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East, Kutztown.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Makiah Shaw was able to convert and and-one opportunity early in the second half to bring 'Ville within eight.
- Lauren Lister drilled a three-point shot at the 1:41 mark in the third quarter of play to cut the Raider lead down to five. The three also capped off a five-point scoring run for Lister, as she hit two free throws during the previous offensive possession.
- Lister ended the third quarter with a last-second layup to beat the buzzer and give the Marauders momentum heading into the fourth.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Marauders forced 18 Raider turnovers.
- Millersville finished the game shooting 41.2% from the floor, 42.9% from beyond the arch, and 75% from the free-throw line. They shot a team-high 46.15% in the fourth quarter.
- Leonard led the team with five rebounds.
- Ortwein led the team in assists with five, which ties her career high.
- Lister (21), Shaw (10), and Leonard (10) all scored in double figures.
