No. 15 Millersville rolls to win over East Stroudsburg

| By:
MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - The 15th-ranked Millersville wrestling team made its home dual debut and dispatched of East Stroudsburg 28-10 to improve to 2-0 in PSAC action for the first time.

The Marauders are now 4-1, matching the start from the 2021-22 season. On Wednesday, the Marauders steadily piled up points. After East Stroudsburg major decision at 125 pounds, the Marauders won the next three matches. Two of those wins were tech falls from second-ranked Devin Flannery (133) and eighth-ranked Craig Cook (149). Anthony Giampietro (184) clinched the win for the Marauders and provided the highlight of the night when he stuck Josh Leidig at 1:48. Millersville wrestlers won seven of the 10 bouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Flannery put the Marauders on top for good with five points in his methodical 16-1 win over Kelvin Rodriguez-Molina, who had entered the bout with an 8-3 record. Flannery, now 12-1 on the season with eight-straight victories, scored eight points in back points in the first period alone. After Rodriguez-Molina chose a neutral start in the second period, it took Flannery just 29 seconds to hit a takedown and two more points for another nearfall. Flannery has won both of his PSAC matches by tech falls and a combined score of 36-5.
Tim Uhler gave the Marauders an 8-3 decision in the 141-pound slot before Cook worked an 18-2 tech fall at 149. ESU's Jacob Remolina got the upper-hand with an early takedown, but Cook quickly evened the bout with a reversal and dominated the match from there, hitting two, four-point nearfalls in the first period. From the top position in the second period, he put nearly pinned Remolina three times and settled for an early end to the bout.
• Eighth-ranked 165-pound Brandon Connor started quickly in his match against Luke Ciampa to improve to 9-3 on the season. Connor jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the first period with a pair of takedowns and a nearfall. Ciampa's second period escape was the only point for the final four minutes.
Andrew Vogelbacher (174) got his 12th win over the young season by winning a low-scoring battle against Robert Burke. The bout went scoreless into the third period, but Vogelbacher quickly escaped and added to his lead with a takedown then held on for a 3-1 decision.
• Giampietro's pin at 184 pounds put the Marauders on top 25-7. With a 6-0 lead in the first period, Giampietro turned Leidig at the edge of the mat for the fall. It was his second pin of the season.
Jordan Espinosa finished Millersville's night with a 3-1 win over Thomas Flood. Espinosa scored first with an opening period takedown, and his escape from the bottom position in the second period was all the scoring he needed to improve to 6-3.

REACTION FROM COACH JERRY BOLAND
• On coaching his first home dual at Millersville: "It was pretty exciting. I enjoyed it. I took a moment or two to take it in. I have the mindset that wrestling is wrestling and when the whistle blows it's all business. But it was a good crowd. We had a couple of our commits here, a youth program and some alumni. It was good to get a win in front of them."
• On starting PSAC action 2-0: "We take the same outlook into every match. I told the guys, 'Work really hard to get these wins. It doesn't matter who your opponent is.' We can away with a win, and we need to enjoy it but you also need to look at how we got it done and check the things we need to improve on. This team has high aspirations this year."
• On the strong starts to the season from Flannery and Cook: "It comes down to work ethic and mindset. They give 110% in the room, and when they go out there, they have a motor. They continue to pour it on. They have one mission, and that's to get bonus regardless of who the opponent is."
• On Giampietro's pin: "That was huge. He is another one who gives maximum effort. He goes out there for the fall. He saw a chance to put a guy away and he didn't let it slip away."
