Guard play paces Marauders to fifth-straight win

CLARION, Pa. – Mekhi Hendricks scored a game-high 15 points, Keith Mency scored 13 and Jahme Ested tallied 12 points, fifth assists and five rebounds as Millersville's trio of guards led the way to a 72-62 road win over Clarion Sunday evening. 

Millersville (6-3, 3-0 PSAC) has now won five in a row and six of the last seven. Hendricks, Mency and Hendricks combined to shoot 6-of-10 from three while the rest of the lineup went 2-for-10, and the guards also made an impact on the defensive end, combining for five steals, and Ested blocked a career-high two shots. 

Defense has been the Marauders' calling card throughout the season, and even more so in the recent winning streak in which it has held five of the last seven opponents to fewer than 70 points no opponent has shot better than 43.9% from the field over the last five wins. Millersville held Clarion to 36.4% shooting from the field. 

A slow start on the offensive end had Millersville trailing by as many as five in the first half, and it was still behind with just over five minutes remaining in the first half. Ryan Davis, however, started a 14-4 run to close the period. Millersville's lead stretched to double-digits for the first time with 15:02 left n the game on a put-back dunk from Matt Dade. Mency, Hendricks and freshman Day Waters hit threes in the next nine minutes as the Marauders pushed the lead to 15 (64-49).

Drew Stover recorded his first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds in 19 minutes. 
• Ested's five assists were were his second-highest total of the season. He's scored in double figures in three-straight games.
