Men's soccer earns road win at Molloy, 2-0

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – The Millersville men's soccer team scored two second-half goals on Wednesday night to take down Molloy on the road, 2-0.

The first half of Wednesday's match was fairly even as 'Ville outshot Molloy 7-5, including a 4-3 edge on-goal. Three of the Marauders' first-half shots came before the 20' mark – Bob Hennessey accounted for two of those attempts, one landing on-frame during the 14' that was brought in by Lions' keeper, Nick Conklu. The Lions would record the next shot in the 20' that was saved by keeper, Travis Holiday, who got his second start of the season. Neither team was able to find the net in the first 45', leading to a scoreless tie at the half.

Millersville would break the tie 15 minutes into the second as Peter Chol headed in his first career-goal off of a Bob Hennessey assist. The Marauders would increase their lead five minutes later when Matt Lynch and Richy Valverde found themselves in a two-on-one scenario that ended with a Valverde score.

Molloy only recorded two shots following the Marauders' second goal, neither landing on-frame, leading to the shutout victory.

POSTGAME REACTION FROM HEAD COACH STEVE WIDDOWSON
Overall thoughts on the win: " Another very solid performance today and we checked all the boxes we talked about. We kept our momentum going and was able to use pretty much every player available and did some very good things throughout the 90 minutes."

On the second half play: " At half time we chatted about the need to find the reward for the good play we had produced in the first half. We were able to achieve that with the two goals in the second half, so it was a good reaction from the guys to add that final piece."

On Travis Holiday's performance: " We are always looking for development in our players and to get another game under Travis's belt was important. The best way to develop is to play, and it was great to get Travis 90 minutes along with plenty of time for other players such as Colin Coffield and Peter Chol. They all did well, and it will help them and the team for the future."
