ABOUT THE GAMES

  • The Millersville men's soccer team is set to host a pair of important Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division contests this week. The Marauders will invite Shepherd to town on Wednesday, Oct. 12 for a 6 p.m. match before playing West Chester on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 3:30 p.m. .
  • Head coach Steve Widdowson's group is currently on the outside looking in of the PSAC postseason with four conference games remaining as the Marauders sit in a tie for the No. 4 spot with 12 points. The division's current leader is Bloomsburg with 16 points, followed by West Chester with 14 points and East Stroudsburg with 13. Three teams from each division (East and West) qualify for postseason play.
  • Millersville has played both Shepherd and West Chester on the road in 2022. 'Ville left Shephersdown, W. Va. with a 1-0 victory and ended its game against the Golden Rams in a 1-1 draw.
  • Shepherd sits in last place heading into this matchup and Widdowson has never suffered a loss to the Rams, holding a dominate 8-0 record.

SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS

  • Millersville will look to build off of its recent 4-1 rout over Shippensburg this week in two critical conference matchups. The Marauders saw plenty of quality chances in that win as they recorded 20 total shots and fired 10 at the Raider keeper.
  • The Marauders have has a balanced attack in terms of goalscoring thus far -- Freshman, Zander Leik leads 'Ville in scoring with five goals, while Spencer Shortt, Matthew Lynch and Christian Bowles have all scored four. The next three Marauders in line after that, Bob Hennessey, Richy Valverde and Aaron Maynard have scored two each, which gives Widdowson plenty of scoring options each games.
  • Shortt, the Marauders' all-time leader in assists currently ranks first on the team, second in the conference and 11th in the nation with seven this season. Mike Kreider ranks second on the team with three assists and four players follow him with two each.
  • Bobby Bosch has made 41 saves in his 12 starts this season while giving up 15 goals. Bosch, along with Maynard and Kreider, lead the PSAC's fifth best defense, giving up just over one goal per contest.

SCOUTING THE RAMS

  • The last-place Rams have had a rough go in 2022, giving up 28 goals (2.15 per game) while only scoring eight of their own. In addition to the goals, they are being outshot 228-91, and 102-39 on-frame. Shepherd has yet to win a game in PSAC East play but holds two points from draws.
  • The Rams' offense is led by Justin Langon, who has scored three goals and taken 15 shots. He's joined by Andrew West, who has two scores this year.
  • Goalkeeper, Billy Wood has started 12 games for the Rams and appeared in all 13. The keeper has faced 220 shots, made 70 saves and given up 28 goals.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN RAMS

  • West Chester was last season's Eastern Division No. 2 seed in the PSAC tournament and the Golden Rams are looking to secure a top spot again in 2022. The Golden Rams have outscored opponents 25-12 this season and outshot opponents 175-123.
  • However, WCU has been trending in the wrong direction as of late. After starting the season on a 7-1 tear that included a seven-game winning streak, the Golden Rams have went 0-1-2 in their last three games.
  • The Golden Ram offense is led by Andrew Markopoulous, who has scored a team-high four goals. He is joined by Ryan Keenan, Trevor Looby and Frankie Taylor who all have recorded six points this season.
  • Daniel Good mans the WCU net and has given up just 11 goals this season, while making 43 saves. The Marauders were able to beat Good once early this fall.
