ABOUT THE MATCH

  • Millersville hosts the nation's No. 6-ranked squad in Gannon on Friday night in Pucillo Gymnasium. The Marauders started their dual meet schedule by winning four of the first five, and that one loss came to Division I Lock Haven. Gannon is 1-2 and yet to wrestle a PSAC opponent, but its two losses came against Division I Buffalo and Edinboro. Millersville defeated Shippensburg 41-3 in its only home dual to date. This dual starts a run of four-straight PSAC match-ups for the Marauders. The Super Region 1 coaches have Gannon ranked No. 1 and Millersville sixth out of 11 teams.

SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS

  • Anthony Yacovetti wrestled his way to a fourth-place finish at the David H. Lehman Open and was the lone non-Division I placer. Yacovetti has been a revelation for the Marauders since returning from injury. He has gone 8-1 with a pair of pins and two tech falls. He is currently ranked sixth in Super Region 1.
  • Millersville has been dealing with numerous injuries lately, and wins leader, Brandon Connor (15-6) and Devin Flannery (8-2) have not wrestled since mid-December. That has given wrestlers like Guy Deleonardis opportunities. At 165 pounds, Deleonardis is 12-8 with a 3-1 dual record.
  • 285-pound Bishop McCoy is Millersville's highest-ranked wrestler in the super region, coming in at No. 5. McCoy missed the most recent open but has earned a 13-9 record that includes four falls.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS

  • In 2021, Gannon placed ninth out of 44 teams at the NCAA Championships, and the headliner of that group, 165-pound Alex Farenchak is back and currently the No. 1-ranked wrestler at 165 in Division II. Farenchak was the national runner-up a season ago and 6-2 so far this season. Gannon also features a returning national qualifier in 141-pound Austin Hertel, and 149-pound Dominic Means is ranked No. 2 in the nation with a 6-0 record. He is coming off a victory a first-place finish at the Midwest Classic. Joel Liese and his 4-0 record is ranked No. 3 at 197 pounds. Heavyweight Freddie Nixon is not ranked, but he is 10-1. Nixon took first place at the Mount Union Invitational in November. Jacob Dunlap is the top-ranked wrestler in Super Region 1 at 125 pounds.
