CALIFORNIA, Pa. - Millersville ran into the brick wall that is Cal U's defense, and the Vulcans' offense, led by quarterback Noah Mitchell, played keep away with an efficient passing attack that sustained six lengthy scoring drives in Saturday's 30-0 win over the Marauders.
The Vulcans entered the game as the PSAC's No. 1-ranked defense in yards and rushing, and they certainly lived up to that billing in pitching its second-straight shutout. The Marauders managed just four first downs and ran more than three plays on just three of its eight offensive drives. On the other side of the ball, Millersville couldn't get Mitchell on the sidelines.
Mitchell completed his first 20 pass attempts and finished 27-for-29 for 320 yards. He threw a touchdown and ran in another. He did not throw an incomplete pass until the third quarter.
Cal U improved to 3-0 with the win, and Millersville fell to 1-2.

POSTGAME REACTION FROM COACH J.C. MORGAN
•
On the challenge presented by Cal U: "Give Cal credit, but I'm more concerned about the breakdowns we had than how Cal played. Anytime we got something going on a drive we had a missed opportunity or a loss. I give Cal credit but we have to limit the mistakes."
•
On corrections that need to be made: "When we go back and watch the film. We will see the mistakes are correctable. We shot ourselves in the foot with a couple of penalties but there were some things from an operations standpoint that didn't give us a chance to make the plays that were out there. We have good athletes, many of whom are playing their first games ever. They have talent and ability, we just have to keep plugging and learning on the fly. With the (PSAC) East coming up, we have to learn quickly. We have the guys who can make plays, we have to put them in good spots. It won't be for a lack of effort. We are going to keep working. Those young men have a lot of pride. Make no mistake, this was a team loss, not an offensive loss."
•
On Cal U's ability to stay on the field: "Anytime you get in the red zone and hold them to three that's a good thing. The thing we have to address is letting them get into the red zone. When you can't get off the field and can't stay on the field it's not going to work out well for you. 44 minutes of possession. At some point we have to make a stop."
NOTES
• Tate's 2 1/2 sacks were the most by a Marauder since Sene Polamalu also recorded 2 1/2 in the 2015 season opener.
UP NEXT
• Millersville returns home to start PSAC East play on Sept. 25 against West Chester.
